About the Boilermaker Statue Replica:

This bronze Purdue boilermaker statue replica was cast by our artists using the traditional lost-wax method. After researching extensive information about boilermakers, including their job characteristics and attire, the statue was handcrafted through 33 complex steps.

During the casting process, our artists used clay models and silicone mould to create vivid details such as the boilermaker’s eyebrows, double eyelids, facial wrinkles, and arm veins. More importantly, we used advanced chemical coloring technology to ensure a natural, long-lasting color, ensuring it will become a treasure that will be passed down through generations.

The boilermaker, wearing a hard hat, holds a hammer in his right hand, assisting with the operation with his left, authentically recreating the work scene. This sculpture is ideal for display in factories, schools, labor-themed parks, and community spaces, and serves as a memorial to our fathers who practiced this profession.

Original Boilermaker Statue Introduction:

The original Purdue Boilermaker statue, located at the top of the North University Avenue staircase between the Purdue University intercollegiate athletic facilities and the Mollenkopf Athletic Center, stands 18 feet tall and was installed on November 4th, 2005.

The statue commemorates the Purdue football team’s 44-0 victory over Wabash College in 1891, and the Boilermakers later became the school’s team name.

Installation process of the Purdue Boilermaker statue
Installation process

The statue was created by sculptor Jon Hair of Cornelius, North Carolina, at a commission from an anonymous donor who wished to donate a statue of the world’s largest boilermaker to Purdue University. The casting process involved consulting numerous old photographs and newspaper articles to ensure an accurate depiction of the 19th-century boilermaker.

The statue was undoubtedly a success, garnering significant media coverage and attention upon its unveiling.

Boilermakers are essential frontline workers in industrial production and building heating, working year-round in high-temperature, high-noise environments to ensure the proper operation of the system. The spirit embodied by the boilerman is a simple and resilient laborer’s spirit: endurance, teamwork, and unwavering dedication.
